Carrie Westwater & Colin Healy in 'King Arthur' 2009 by Lucy Nordberg

The British Beatles Fan Club magazine - 2017: A Life With The Beatles

Date Published: 1 December 2015

Neil Aspinall had been the Beatles road manager since the very early days, before Ringo (since Neil was a friend of Pete Best), even before Epstein, always at their side, but away from the limelight, through the break-up and beyond, later becoming the CEO of Apple Corps. Aspinall was part of an incredible story recounted through this theatrical monologue written by Davide Verazzani.

The show was first staged in Milan in October 2013, then, translated by Sabrina Macchi, was premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2015 to great success.

The one-man-play, directed by Andy Carelli Jones. Then transferred to London as part of the #FestivaI45, running from 23rd through to 28th November at the Kings Head Theatre in Islington. I went along to this performance not really expecting all that much to be honest, though being staged in a theatre pub has its benefits. However, from the opening moments of the production I was completely spellbound by the enthusiastic and incredible account of Neil Aspinall's 'life with the Beatles' which was brought to life by actor Ian Sexon. His ultra-energetic performance was entertaining, heart warming and portrayed in one hour, the best account of the Beatles rise to international stardom, I have ever seen. 10 out of 10. Highly recommended and just shows what a great experience these pub theatres can provide...as well as Young's London Stout on tap!
