Siege Perilous is a Community Interest Company operating from Leith Edinburgh. It is a professional theatre production company which was founded in 2000. Run by co-founders Artistic Director Andy Corelli and Producer Tina Finch, the company champions new writing. Its 360° mentoring programme for talented, emerging playwrights culminates with the opportunity for their previously unseen work to be professionally staged. Unsolicited scripts are also welcome. As well as producing new work, we like to stage contemporary adaptations of classic texts.
The company enjoys performing in unusual spaces making theatre more widely accessible. It has performed at an historical castle, a nightclub, a bar and a 6,000 sq ft empty retail unit at Ocean Terminal. During a 2-year residency at the GRV, it staged 8 well-received productions. It has appeared at Edinburgh’s Festival Fringe four times and completed a UK tour. It has collaborated with regional partners including the de Marco European Art Foundation, Pendragon Enterprises and West Port Productions.
The company regularly mentors new entrants to the industry in roles such as Assistant Director, Stage Manager, Wardrobe, Technical crew and newly graduated actors. It has worked with students of all ages in a range of activities and incorporates workshops and after-show talks to its production plans.
In September 2011, the company launched a new mentoring scheme for emerging playwrights. It also created the role of Writer-in-Residence (WIR), and appointed Caroline Dunford to the role (published author, multi-produced playwright of stage and educational work, regular contributor to the Edinburgh International Book Festival) to help in the programme’s delivery.
In 2001, the company received an award from Awards for All and in 2010, an Arts and Business Award which ran for 12 months.
The Company upholds professionalism, a commercial outlook and ongoing development of good practice. Above all, we carry out our activities with enthusiasm, passion and integrity
