Playwright Simon Jackson

Simon Jackson is an Edinburgh based writer, musician and filmmaker. He was named British Gas Young Playwright of the Year in 1994 and has since won many awards for his plays, radio plays and poetry, including the Cambridge Mono and Duologue Festival Audience Award 2009, the Grace Dieux Writers’ Prize 2009 and the Writers’ Bureau and Segora Poetry prizes in 2010 and 2011. His work has been translated into six languages. In 2009 he was commissioned to write a feature film for Jason Statham’s production company (which has yet to be made). His series of short films based on Scottish poems have been used by the BBC and shown in Film Festivals around the world and he is currently filming music videos for Billy Bragg’s Jail Guitar Doors charity. He has composed soundtracks for a few films, plays and radio plays and an album of his music (with words) is available on Happy Lizard Records under the name Torpedo Buoy.
